The year is 1975. Young American operative Steve “Tsetse” Seidel arrives in Nigeria to filter classified information from the Dark Continent under the cover of a Lagos based aircraft parts facility. “Tsetse” is a scrappy engineer the Agency decides to let fly solo on this assignment. All in Lagos is not as expected, and while struggling with cultural and business practices, Seidel is forced to rely on four recent hires at the parts company (Laidi, Dhobi, “Sam” and Dad), his acquired village dog Kobos, as well as Bisola—a dangerously beautiful University student he meets at the nightclub Bacchus.
Seidel senses something is drastically wrong within the U.S. espionage network. Chance discoveries on his part lead down trails of Russian and Chinese involvements. He has fallen in love with Africa and, in trying to protect those closest to him, must flee. Moral, mental and spiritual compass points shift as he searches for the proper path.

This lively, wholesome and ambitious espionage thriller for young adults is a pleasurable read for anyone. I enjoyed its rich technical details and vividly drawn characters. The swashbuckling plot‘s many surprising twists and turns are unlikely enough to be, in fact, totally plausible. The author deftly combines his fiction with historical material, anthropological themes, engineering, and conjectural science. The West African locations are realistically and sensitively portrayed using native folk-tales and artistic references, lending a depth of colour and romance more typical of novels of a previous age than the present. Although the love story somewhat lacks ardour, passion and crisis, it remains a love story of destiny, shared adventure and touching loyalty. Unfortunately the novel is poorly edited by the publisher, and so is marred by occasional grammatical and typographical howlers. And although the narrator of the second half loses her unique voice in places, and the reader has to negotiate past gratuitous religious dog-piles, it is still a remarkably entertaining first novel by an accomplished polymath and portrait and landscape painter, and well worth the buck.Product details

The perfect thriller for a summer read.

It's a wonderful trip to the 1970s spy world...I couldn't put it down. Looking forward to Pessemier's next adventure .

This is a perfect summer read! It captures your imagination and draws the reader into the world of espionage and Africa! It is a triller that is hard to put down once you start. A simply delightful engaging story with twists and turns and colorful characters and locations.
Loved reading this adventurous fun mystery thriller. It takes some guessing in the beginning to figure out who's what, but the writing flows along and keeps the reader "attached" and curious. The love story with Africa is a good counterpoint to the spy intrigue. Great for summer reading.
I loved this wonderful, complex thriller – Pessemier’s incredible research and knowledge of African history, folklore, cargo navigation and engineering come together in an amazing tale of intrigue. The twists and turns will most certainly keep you riveted but his meticulous attention to detail truly sets this novel above the genre.
Exciting story to follow. Blair writes a fast narrative, taking you to Africa and revealing a sensitive side of things that might escape the less perceptive eye. While there is no reality in the context, the soft spy vehicle is perfect for a story where you are not sure who is after whom and in fact who might really be the good guy, but you want to know what comes next. Perfect for a good afternoon in the hammock kind of thing. I enjoyed it tremendously!
